Background: I am a retired Protestant minister and university professor of religious studies from the United States.
Passion: My wife, Cecelia and I enjoy choral singing and we are members of the Banbury Choral Society.
About Steve Phillips:
My wife and I have lived in Banbury for over 4 years. Previously we lived in New York (approx. 20 Years) and Valencia, Spain (6 years). We have three adult children – Carla lives in Bloxom where she is a senior project manager. Amy lives in Manchester where she is a lecturer in Environmental Impact Analysis. Our son, Sam, lives in Bonn, Germany where he is a social worker. We have two grandchildren, Amelia who is 4 and Robbie who is one.
Why I Joined Sunrise:
For all of my professional and private life I have been an active volunteer and as an Ordained Minister of the United Methodist New York Annual Conference, I have considerable experience dealing with many of the concerns that Sunrise addresses.
What do you enjoy most about being involved with Sunrise?
Interacting with the beneficiaries and other volunteers of the meet-up groups.
What is one thing you hope Sunrise achieves in the future?
As a person of faith, I live in hope for the day when all humanity sees itself as “different flowers stemming from the same tree.” In this community, I view Sunrise as the last best hope of making this a reality.

Spain.

Teaching my Zoom class on Wolrd REligions.
Three words your friends would use to describe you
Active, concerned and a politics junkie.
If you could have dinner with anyone, living or historical, who would it be?
Benazir Bhutto (ex-Female prime minister of Pakistan)
What’s one interesting fact that people may not know about you?
I was in Dallas, Texas on the day that John F Kennedy was assassinated and in New York on 9/11/2001. (I had nothing to do with either event – promise!)
What motivates or inspires you?
I am inspired and encouraged by the enthusiasm and energy of the Sunrise staff and volunteers.
